I agree about the "optimised" feed. Totally useless to me. And not optional either, which makes it worse.

I think it really is a developers' cms that benefits hugely from a good understanding of php and the whole business of yaml. The twig templating is a departure for me too. But overall, I really like it. Much more so than octopuses. And the existing themes and ease of child themes make it easy to have it look good.
