I suspected as much, because how else would you keep an eye on things? Anyway, thanks. I'm reading up on dreamhost and git and weighing my options. Digital Ocean may be a possible if I run into difficulties.

Uh oh. Timing out with a 522.

Added a CNAME on Cloudflare as you suggested. All seems OK, but get this message.

An A, AAAA or CNAME record was not found for the www subdomain. The www.potp.it subdomain will not resolve.

Not sure where the *.potp.it should point to now.

Tracked down some guy who is responsible for a lot of fake news. Turns out he's a registered Democrat. The interesting thing is, he says that he tried to do fake news about alt-right, hoping that they would spread too, and they were debunked in the first couple of comments and fizzled out.

I find that interesting.

Did you hear the recent Planet Money on this subject?

And if I am going to go the route of having a local development installation, which I push to git and then pull with a web hook, that will work on Dreamhost too.

I was just wondering whether there might be some better choice.

I already have one site with LE at DreamHost, so I know that works. Maybe that's the way to go.

OK. Thanks. I'll do that when …

IHAQ

I've been having a little trouble with my installation of Known that I use to experiment with indieweb. More specifically, the hosting service doesn't offer FTP and can't show me logs "cause they're in Docker" or something. And while he is nice as pie and tries to be helpful, he also insists that FTP is a thing of the past, and that I should be learning spiffy modern new ways of working, like git, Docker etc etc.

I should add that the reason I first went with this host was that they could get an SSL cert (which Known requires) more easily than any of the other hosting providers at that stage. Now, with Let's Encrypt, that reason is gone, even if I do have to renew every 3 months.

I agree, I do need to become a little more up to date, but if I am going to do that, I may as well try to do it somewhere a little less opaque.

So, here's my question (at last): I use Gandi, Namecheap and Dreamhost to host dynamic sites at the moment (not counting 10C :)) and I suspect any one of them would do, but is there maybe another place you would recommend I try? Last time I looked at Linode it was a bit beyond me. Anywhere else?

Thanks.

Hey : What was that thing about changing CloudFlare details that I was supposed to wait for you to do?
